Google Classifieds?
Staci at paidconent notes, Google wants in on classifieds:
Google is asking classified advertising sites, including CareerBuilder and Adicio, for direct feeds of listings, according to an alert from newsletter Classified Intelligence Report. Richard Castellini, CareerBuilder VP-consumer marketing, told CIR talks are continuing and that Goole hasn't shared its timetable. Terry Baker, Adicio VP-sales and marketing, said his company is working on a coordinated response with affiliates with sites powered by CareerCast; that includes Dow Jones and NYTCO. As far as he knows, none of them have decided to cooperate with Google. Google's discussions aren't limited to recruiting sites.
From the press release mentioned above:
Google is aggressively moving to include classifieds listings in its organic search results, making the rounds of classified advertising Web sites, requesting a direct feed of listings.
Google Impose Google Accounts on AdWords Users
We not so long ago reported Google's integration of Orkut and Google accounts. Now they've begun further unifying their services, by imposing the same requirement on AdWords accounts:
Soon, we'll be changing our AdWords login system to Google Accounts. We're doing this to help increase your security and make your life simpler with one email and password. A Google Account lets you access multiple Google services (such as AdWords, Froogle, Google Groups, and more) with a single email and password.
ThreadWatch users post some interesting discussion on the ramifications of this.
Google Celebrated Fake Birthday
We congratulated Google yesterday for their 7th Birthday, which was also the same day they announced their index to be at least three times larger than that of the competition. Now it seems, Google's birthday was not on Sept 27th as they would have you believe, but Sept 7th as threadwatch points out. Google offer this explanation:
A cached version of the page reads slightly differently:Google opened its doors in September 1998. The exact date when we celebrate our birthday has moved around over the years, depending on when people feel like having cake.
Google's official birthday is September 7, 1998. If Google were a person, it would have started elementary school late last summer (around August 19), and today it would have just finished the first grade. In other words, we're just getting started.
