Not working
Linkcount in Msn and Google is not working for me.
Re: Not working
If you can give me some more details (which version of firefox you are using, how exactly it's not working, etc)? Then I'll try fix it.
Re: Re: Not working
Was running 1.0.2, then decided to update (I always use Opera)to 1.0.7 but it's the same. Finding positions seems work fine, but linkcount doesn't work. For example: do you see Webmaterbrain logo at top right of this page? Say for me: Google 0 links, msn 0 links and Yahoo! 192, but clicking in the link Yahoo! says me: Results 1 - 10 of about 29,700 for link:http://www.webmasterbrain.com/
Re: Re: Not working
But maybe it's because I have a few SEO plugins also.
Great Tool
Just read about it on threadwatch, downloaded it, installed it and right away it was popping up with data. Very useful tool which will unfortunately create another addictive habit.. hovering over whatever link, just to know:)
Google History
Is there a way to prevent all links being displayed within my Google history?
Excellent Tool
Installed this into Firefox, worked right away.
Interesting perspective on websites.
Excellent
Great tool!
I'll be recommending this one on our blog for sure.
Thanks !!!

Installation
Sorry, new to FireFox, how do you install this extension?
Thanks
Mick
Re: Installation
Make sure firefox is set to allow extension installs from www.webmasterbrain.com:
1. Go to "Preferences", "Web Features"
2. Ensure "Allow websites to install software", click "Allowed Sites"
3. Type in: "www.webmasterbrain.com" (without the quotes), keep hitting return until all dialogs are closed
Clicking the download button on this page should do the rest.
Firefox SEO link plugin
I'm getting multiple sites in Google ranked number one. To me this seems to be an error, not a feature !
Re: Firefox SEO link plugin
How do you mean? Can you give me an example?
Thanks
doesn't work?
the extension doesn't work properly, if you haven't set english as your default language in firefox.
rankings?
Just wondering where the rankings info comes from. I've tried hovering over a couple of links where I know the current rankings, and they don't seem to be the same. Looks like a very cool tool, just wondering where the info comes from...
Thanks.
Re: rankings?
The extension uses the MSN, and Yahoo API services. Unfortunately there is sometimes discrepancies between the API and regular results in the case of both engines.
Google data is extracted directly from regular SERPs and so the most accurate. Their API is frankly too slow and crippled for any practical use.
Re: Re: rankings?
Still not sure I get how the rankings are generated. For instance, if I go to firefox.com and mouse over the Mozilla Foundation link, I see all the backlinks, and all the rankings are 1st. Don't you have to search the various search engines with a particular keyword or phrase to find out what that site's SERPs are? If I search using the phrase [Mozilla Foundation], of course it'll come up as 1st. Are the rankings determined by searching using the anchor text of the link itself?
Am I missing something here?
Thanks for your answers. I think I love this tool, but need a bit more convincing yet.
Re: Re: Re: rankings?
Yes, the search term is taken from the anchor text.
Re: Re: Re: Re: rankings?
Yep. As soon as I posted that reply, I started kicking myself. Of course that's where it comes from. %-6
Thanks for the answers anyway.
For Anyone Experiencing Problems
I've setup a mailing list to track new releases. (Until I integrate the page with the rest of the site) you can sign up from this URL:
http://www.webmasterbrain.com/lists/?p=subscribe&id=2
You'll then be notified when new releases (likely fixing any problems you are experiencing) come out.
Your address won't be spammed, sold, etc, etc.

Firefox extention SEOLinks...et al
I click on "download now" again and again, I read the privacy policy, you name it, Nada.
Please tell me EXACTLY how to simply download this new tool. I feel stupid, but this is the first download that hasn't worked effortlessly for me!
R.
Re: Firefox extention SEOLinks...et al
My earlier reply to Mick might help
suspicion
Why don't you provide a download option, instead of forcing a browser install. That's fishy.

Re: suspicion
I'm not forcing the install. Firefox's default behavior with .xpi (firefox extension) files is to attempt an install.
If you want to download the extension file but not install it, right click and select "Save Link As"
Frames
Hi M8
It's an interesting little number good for tracking new pages...
However, every time I want to check a site, if the page is part of a framed site e.g.
http://www.landscape.co.uk/
Nada!
Any ideas?
R
Re: Frames
If you right click the frame you want and select "This Frame" -> "Show Only This Frame" it should work.
I didn't think to support frames, since with the exception of bloglines, I haven't seen them used in years.
nice tool
I really like this tool
How can I make it country specific though, for example I'd like to see how I'm doing on MSN.co.uk Yahoo.co.uk and Google.co.uk
For some of my .uk domain on UK hosting im nowhere to be seen in US serps, where can I change this?
I looked in the .xpi file but its all jumbled
cheers
Re: nice tool
If you want to hard-code the changes, the file you want is /chrome/seolinks/content/seolinks.js, do a search for google.com, msn.com, etc and tweak the urls however you wish, then zip it backup and re-install the extension
If that's too technical you can subscribe to the mailing list (higher up on this page) to be notified when the next version comes out which will likely include country selection
have no file
I've got no /chrome/seolinks/content/seolinks.js
Where is it?
Re: have no file
The seolinks.xpi file is zipped, you can use WinZip or any other zip extractor to get at the file a mentioned.
Nice, but is it possible...
Hi, wonderful tool I was just wondering would it be possible to update it so it will only check part of the anchor text by selecting it. This would be useful for those who target certain keywords written in articles and other comments.
Re: Nice, but is it possible...
Possibly in future release, it sounds like it would be a good feature.
You can up for the mailing list on this page if you want to know when future releases arrive.
Not showing link count
Hi, I am using FF 1.0.7 , German version. SEOlinks does not show any backlinks, not for Google, neither for MSN/Yahoo. Any ideas?

Add Alexa Ranking?
Would it be possible to add Alexa rank to future builds? I find the Alexa rank to be the most useful.

Alexa integrated is nice but not nescessary
Alexa ranking isn't usefull.. nice to have but not reliable.
Nice extension.
Install issues [fixed]
Couldn't install using the "regular" procedure. But _saving_ the file to disk and opening it with Firefox fixed the problem.
Nice extension.
Turn on and Off
How do you toggle the extension on and off

I have pretty reproducable FF 1.5.0.4 crashes with SEO Links if I hover over long URLs. Right now it will be deactivated. Otherwise a good and useful tool.

It breaks my script :-(
No big deal but it took me awhile to figure out what was going on.
On this page [1] after clicking a thumbnail, users are supposed to see a larger image with a caption; with the SEO extension, that caption does not appear, the script on the page fails to return "this.title".

SEO book has also an extension that's a lot like this. Call SEO for firefox if these were to get together and make one extension magic would happen! But that's just my two cents.
Thank You
